The project involved doubling the railway line from Pescia to Lucca and upgrading the stations along the route, including the Borgo a Buggiano station. The 23.345 km stretch of doubled track allows the metropolitan service to be extended and improves train operations by making traffic flow smoother and reducing waiting times for crossings at the stations.
