This project fell within the scope of works to be carried out in the Province of Varese, and entailed the construction of a new road section to extend the existing provincial road (S.P. 1). The new road infrastructure joins the existing route via a roundabout in the direction of the Municipality of Gavirate, enters the S.P. 50 provincial road near the municipal border between Bardello and Besozzo, and crosses the Bardello stream over a newly built road bridge. The latter is a 160 m long 6-span bridge, with no water interference in the event of floods (in full compliance with Italian Ministerial Decree dated 14 January 2008 – first category). The spans have been constructed using prebuilt reinforced concrete closed section beams of approximately 26 m in length. The bridge has an overall width of 12.50 m, is divided into 2 carriageways having a width of 3.75 m, 2 tarred roadsides having a width of 1.50 m and 2 sidewalks having a width of 1 m.
