New HV / MV transformer substation at Leonardo Da Vinci airport

The project involved the construction of a new HV / MV transformation electrical substation and the subsequent distribution to the MV / LV transformer substations, with an incoming voltage of 150KV, of the Leonardo da Vinci terminal in Fiumicino (RM). The substation consists of 3 separate buildings in prefabricated structure (for an area of 2,200 square meters), named: “Room A” and “Room B”, which house specific protection devices for this plant (MV switchboards, LV switchboards, control panels) and “Sala GIS” which contains the electromechanical plant of the same name. Outside the buildings, along two batteries consisting of four pitches built close to the GIS rooms, 8 open stations were provided for housing the current transformers (150 / 20kV transformation power), in addition to a collection system oil for any accidental leaks consisting of a “guard ditch” built around each transformer and connected to a ducted piping system that conveys the losses to an underground tank appropriately sized for collecting transformer oil.
